Currently, when users click on the web search feature in the open web UI, they may not be fully aware that the information they provide will be sent to the internet. This lack of transparency could potentially lead to privacy concerns or unintended sharing of sensitive information.
Describe the solution you'd like
We propose adding a friendly, non-intrusive notification that appears when a user clicks on the web search feature. This notification would inform the user that any information they enter will be sent to the internet as part of the search query. The notification should be:
Clear and concise
User-friendly in tone
Easily dismissible for frequent users
Optionally, include a "Don't show this again" checkbox
Describe alternatives you've considered
A permanent disclaimer text near the search bar
A one-time pop-up notification when the user first uses the web search feature
Including this information in the user settings or FAQ section
Additional context
This feature aims to enhance user trust and transparency without significantly impacting the user experience. It aligns with best practices for data privacy and user consent.
A mock-up of the notification could be helpful to visualize the implementation. Additionally, we should consider how this notification might be localized for different languages and regions.
