Hey,
Just tested with testing (there is a bug preventing SSO account creation in 1.35.7) and the preferred username is used.
You can activate SSO_DEBUG_TOKENS=true and LOG_LEVEL=info,vaultwarden::sso=debug to check if your provider is sending the correct information.
