The OpenClaw template does have the gateway token properly configured - it auto-generates OPENCLAW_GATEWAY_TOKEN using a 32-character password.

The "gateway token missing" error you're seeing in the Chat UI is actually expected behavior - the Chat interface requires you to manually paste the gateway token to connect. Here's how to fix it:

  1. Go to the Control → Overview or Config section in the OpenClaw UI
  2. Find the generated OPENCLAW_GATEWAY_TOKEN value (you can also check your Dokploy environment variables for the deployed compose service)
  3. Paste that token into the Chat settings where it prompts you to connect

The gateway token acts as authentication between the Chat UI and the backend gateway service - it's a security feature, not a bug.

If you're still having issues after entering the token, try disabling "Enable Isolated Deployment" in the Advanced Settings of your compose project in Dokploy, as this can sometimes prevent the services from communicating properly.
