Xata is a managed platform built on PostgreSQL that introduces database branching as a core feature for development environments. It allows the creation of isolated instances via pull requests or agents using copy-on-write (CoW), avoiding complete physical duplication of the dataset.

Xata's core value (managed Postgres with copy-on-write branching) is a hosted platform — there is no self-hostable distribution of it to template. Happy to reconsider if they ever ship one.

Deleting a branch is permanent. Although the deleted branch may continue to exist for a short time before it actually gets removed, it CANNOT be undone in most cases. Continue?
