Description

Adds DEFAULT_STREAM_RESPONSE environment variable to control default streaming behavior at deployment level without code modifications.

Changelog

Added

  • DEFAULT_STREAM_RESPONSE environment variable (defaults to true)
  • PersistentConfig in backend/open_webui/config.py at ui.default_stream_response
  • Config fallback in src/lib/components/chat/Chat.svelte

Changed

  • Streaming logic now checks $config?.default_stream_response before hardcoded default

Usage

DEFAULT_STREAM_RESPONSE=false


Or in docker-compose.yml:

environment:
  - DEFAULT_STREAM_RESPONSE=false

Testing
 Set DEFAULT_STREAM_RESPONSE=false - streaming disabled by default
 User/model settings still override the default
 Backward compatible (defaults to true)
