Bug Report

Installation Method

Clean, local dev environment following the steps here:
https://docs.openwebui.com/getting-started/advanced-topics/development

I haven't set up the .env file or changed anything else after installing. Everything is working except for theme selection.

Environment

  • Open WebUI Version: 0.5.16
  • Operating System: Windows, Ubuntu 24
  • Browser (if applicable): Chrome, Firefox

Confirmation:

  • [v] I have read and followed all the instructions provided in the README.md.
  • [v] I am on the latest version of both Open WebUI and Ollama.
  • I have included the browser console logs.
  • I have included the Docker container logs.
  • [v] I have provided the exact steps to reproduce the bug in the "Steps to Reproduce" section below.

Expected Behavior:

Changing the theme and refreshing the browser used to change the theme displayed.

Actual Behavior:

Changing the theme only shows light mode.

Description

Bug Summary:
I used to be able to change the theme in open webui but the theme only stays in light mode now. I've tried opening this instance from different systems with different browsers.

Reproduction Details

Steps to Reproduce:

  • Set the theme to Dark.
  • Close the browser.
  • Access open webui from any browser and any connected system.
  • open webui still appears in light mode.
