Check Existing Issues

  • I have searched for any existing and/or related issues.
  • I have searched for any existing and/or related discussions.
  • I have also searched in the CLOSED issues AND CLOSED discussions and found no related items (your issue might already be addressed on the development branch!).
  • I am using the latest version of Open WebUI.

Installation Method

Docker

Open WebUI Version

0.7.2

Ollama Version (if applicable)

No response

Operating System

Ubuntu 22.04

Browser (if applicable)

Chrome

Confirmation

  • I have read and followed all instructions in README.md.
  • I am using the latest version of both Open WebUI and Ollama.
  • I have included the browser console logs.
  • I have included the Docker container logs.
  • I have provided every relevant configuration, setting, and environment variable used in my setup.
  • I have clearly listed every relevant configuration, custom setting, environment variable, and command-line option that influences my setup (such as Docker Compose overrides, .env values, browser settings, authentication configurations, etc).
  • I have documented step-by-step reproduction instructions that are precise, sequential, and leave nothing to interpretation. My steps:
  • Start with the initial platform/version/OS and dependencies used,
  • Specify exact install/launch/configure commands,
  • List URLs visited, user input (incl. example values/emails/passwords if needed),
  • Describe all options and toggles enabled or changed,
  • Include any files or environmental changes,
  • Identify the expected and actual result at each stage,
  • Ensure any reasonably skilled user can follow and hit the same issue.

Expected Behavior

I want to have files added to a Folder to augment the responses by the LLM.

The documentation describes "Knowldge" and a "Knowledge Base" and while those terms are vague, it seems to mean "knowledge" is an uploaded document, etc.

The documentation (https://docs.openwebui.com/features/workspace/knowledge) says

  • "The Knowledge section is a storage area"
  • Reference knowledge by prefixing a # character
  • "Navigate to the Knowledge Section"

But, I searched and searched and did not find a Knowledge section.

I expected there to be a clear description of how to find this section.

Actual Behavior

As I said, the actual behavior was a long search looking for this.

I even joined the Discord server and asked a question (https://discord.com/channels/1170866489302188073/1462073022155591852) but the question bot didn't really have an answer.

Steps to Reproduce

Look for The Knowedge Section and get confused.

Logs & Screenshots

n/a

Additional Information

I have eventually found the knowledge section.

In my opinion, I expected Knowledge to be in the left-hand sidebar. Instead it was hidden in the Workspace area.

The purpose of the Workspace area is rather mysterious at the moment. The default screen there talks about generating new Models or something, and since that's not of interest to me, I skipped past it.

I eventually noticed greyed out words one of which is Knowledge. That turned out to be the elusive Knowledge Area.

I think the solution is, in the documentation, to explicitly say "Workspace -> Knowledge".

The Discord question bot, in its answer, does say "Workspace -> Knowledge" which is what prompted me to look more closely in that area of the UI.
