As an Obsidian user, the notes feature is a really nice concept, I have some additional suggestion for consideration, but understand if these don't align with the planned direction of Notes.
- Ability to work on a selection of text, not the entire note
- Ability to review \ accept \ reject the proposed AI enhance changes

Share note will be very useful but also co edition?
@Yu-QX commented on GitHub (May 21, 2025):
Some unimportant advice:
Why not adding the
notebeneathchat? Whenchatis folded, there's nothing more. And I suppose many would prefer a note system similar to the chat one, so they can create folders like notebooks and sort things up. We can also attach tags and other information needed.Thank you!

Another proposition https://github.com/open-webui/open-webui/discussions/14129 on Enhancement: Add configurable retention and storage location for meeting audio notes
@ricdikulous commented on GitHub (May 22, 2025):
It would be great for the transcriptions to be able to identify the different speakers. Could make it an incredibly effective tool for taking notes on meetings

When enhancing text in Notes with a Thinking AI, the Thinking Block is also written into Notes. I don't think that's intended?
@erictmnz commented on GitHub (May 29, 2025):
Agree it would be amazing to support diarization at least with one of the models.
Has anyone found another way of doing this alongside Open WebUI? (Function / Tool / ...)

Could be solved by a custom notes prompt, nah?
@p1-afv commented on GitHub (Jun 19, 2025):
I have observed that Enhancing of a note translate voice transcription to the language of interface. This is weird.. I would notes left on the same language they were transcribed. I thought this is possible to fix with some Notes related system prompt to the model which is used for Enhancing, but couldn't find it. In any case great to have such option (some chackbox) to translate note or not.

Notes and follow-ups generation on version 0.6.14 #14855
There will be custom prompts allowing to capture language but also the typology of the meeting and so the type of resume to do from notes.
@darth-kcaj commented on GitHub (Jul 11, 2025):
+1 This would be great - I can't really use the Enhance button more than once on a doc in the current state as I am going to lose the existing changes when it re-writes the doc
@flefevre commented on GitHub (Jul 17, 2025):
I would like to add two references for real time audio transcription that could be of interest for open webui
https://github.com/kyutai-labs/unmute
Unmute is a system that allows text LLMs to listen and speak by wrapping them in Kyutai's Text-to-speech and Speech-to-text models. The speech-to-text transcribes what the user says, the LLM generates a response in text, and the text-to-speech reads it out loud. Both the STT and TTS are optimized for low latency and the system works with any text LLM you like.
https://mistral.ai/news/voxtral
release the Voxtral models to accelerate this future. These state‑of‑the‑art speech understanding models are available in two sizes—a 24B variant for production-scale applications and a 3B variant for local and edge deployments. Both versions are released under the Apache 2.0 license, and are also available on our API.
Integration of unmute could be definitely be a game changer , the demo is quite impressive

Add a permission to control whether users can publicly share notes.
I think it's not necessary, same as for chats, why more/different restriction to users?
allow to export note as .docx?
Why .docx and not .odt, .pdf, or other formats?
the pdf exportation could be improved. Personally, I thought the previous way of pdf exporting chats was much better, it needed a few tweaks but it was much more efficient.
@Classic298 commented on GitHub (Jul 19, 2025):
@rgaricano chats cannot be shared publicly. Notes can. This is needed
@rgaricano commented on GitHub (Jul 19, 2025):
Yes, chats also can be shared https://torre-nueva.org/s/0be6de46-2f70-4aa6-b144-effee033e7ad as notes https://torre-nueva.org/notes/a76b7e75-f2a6-426b-ba0a-f3089e71a397
but notes share link is improveded: it copy the link to clipboard
or I lost something?
@Classic298 commented on GitHub (Jul 19, 2025):
@rgaricano you can also publicly share notes for EVERY user to see your note in their notes overview menu, similar to publicly sharing a prompt with everyone and write permission set - everyone will be able to see it.
That's why you need a permission toggle to prevent public sharing..
@aztinarGnailuJ commented on GitHub (Aug 6, 2025):
Feature request: I would suggest the ability to set commonly occurring 'hotwords' for STT.
@lwsrbrts commented on GitHub (Aug 15, 2025):
When using dark mode for the theme, exported PDFs export nearly white text on to white PDF, making it impossible to read.
Light mode works fine and exports with nearly black text on white PDF.
@flefevre commented on GitHub (Aug 25, 2025):
I think it would be very useful to have the ability to attach a note directly to a folder or a group. This would move the tool closer to a project management use case.
Example workflow:
This way, the folder becomes a coherent space gathering all information related to a project (documents, participants, meeting notes, etc.).
@acomarcho commented on GitHub (Oct 31, 2025):
This issue is related to this too, I guess.
@silentoplayz commented on GitHub (Nov 5, 2025):
Because Notes can also be shared with users via a usergroup, I believe it deserves the same
All/Created by you/Shared with youdropdown menu that can be found on the workspace pages, along with a larger header below theNotesoption that displays the Notes count.@zolgear commented on GitHub (Jan 6, 2026):
After updating to v0.6.43, Notes started behaving unexpectedly.
When selecting "All," I realized that all notes set as private became visible, so I hurriedly disabled the notes feature.
I thought it might be a migration issue and tried creating a new note, but even with visibility set to Private, all users can see the note.
Should I register this as an issue?
Also, after the new year, I checked the list of notes and noticed that the sorting is incorrect, causing newly created notes to be buried and hard to find.

Hi
I have a couple of feature suggestions that could enhance the notes functionality:
Public Notes Sharing: It would be great to add the ability to make notes public. This way, users could share notes with others via a link, allowing recipients to view and edit them without needing an account in the app. This would promote collaboration and easy sharing of information.
Reminder Notifications: Another useful feature would be the option to set a reminder date on a note, which triggers an in-app notification at the specified time. This could help users stay on top of tasks and deadlines.
These additions would make the app more versatile for personal and collaborative use. Let me know if you'd like more details or if I can help with implementation ideas!
Best,
rober-tm

Hi, I went through this issue and the related discussions — it looks like this is an umbrella thread covering a wide range of possible “notes” functionality.
I’d like to propose a very small, UI-only MVP that addresses one specific pain point mentioned here, and wanted to check alignment before attempting any implementation.
𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦:
In long chat sessions, users often want to preserve specific steps / instructions / insights without breaking flow by scrolling back later.
Currently, there’s no lightweight way to reference or “pin” important parts of a conversation.
𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐕𝐏 (𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐝):
𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐬:
𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐌𝐕𝐏:
The goal would be to establish a minimal foundation for referencing chat content before layering on more advanced notes features.
Would this be an acceptable first step within the scope of this issue, or would you prefer this to be tracked separately?
@TomTheWise commented on GitHub (Jan 24, 2026):
I believe the 3 improvements I posted as discussion for Audio transcription would be quite intertwined with the notes: https://github.com/open-webui/open-webui/discussions/20378
@SchneiderSam commented on GitHub (Feb 18, 2026):
A more Obsidian and wiki like function. Imagine something like fumadocs in OI
@schoenbi commented on GitHub (Feb 24, 2026):
It would be helpful if the search list of the notes would also consider "All", such that users can see all notes, irrespective of the permissions read/write so the second list would be something like All/Write/Read Only
@sduygun commented on GitHub (Feb 25, 2026):
Hi, I wanted to bring up a feature that existed in previous versions but seems to have been removed — the "Send to Note" button on chat messages.
In older versions, there was a direct button on each chat message that allowed users to instantly save that message's content to a note. This was extremely useful for quickly capturing useful information from conversations without interrupting the workflow.
In the current version (v0.8.5), this button is no longer present. Users are now forced to manually open the Notes section, find or create a note, and copy-paste the content — which breaks the flow significantly.
It would be great to see this restored as part of the ongoing Notes enhancements. Ideally:
A "Send to Note" button visible on hover over each message
Option to append to an existing note or create a new one
This would make the Notes feature much more practical and tightly integrated with the chat experience.
Thanks for the great work on this project! 👍
@Classic298 commented on GitHub (Feb 25, 2026):
I cannot remember that this button ever existed. Are you sure you didn't just add a custom action?
@adhusch commented on GitHub (Feb 27, 2026):
As people seem to collect feature requests on notes here, two ideas/wishes from my side, i think this would greatly increase usability for lay users:
@silenceroom commented on GitHub (Mar 11, 2026):
how about adding category/folder/tags for notes? this will be extremely helpful if planned to use notes heavily.
