Description

  • Fixed missing aiohttp session timeout wiring in two OpenAI router code paths so they consistently honor AIOHTTP_CLIENT_TIMEOUT.
  • Updated /Users/user/Documents/Personal/webui/open-webui/backend/open_webui/routers/openai.py to add timeout=aiohttp.ClientTimeout(total=AIOHTTP_CLIENT_TIMEOUT) where aiohttp.ClientSession(trust_env=True) was previously used without timeout.

Fixed

  • 65fb069715 Prevented embeddings and proxy requests from bypassing configured client timeout behavior by using bare ClientSession instances.
  • Aligned timeout behavior with other OpenAI router call sites already using AIOHTTP_CLIENT_TIMEOUT.

Additional Information

  • Repro checklist for manual validation:
  1. Set a small timeout (example: AIOHTTP_CLIENT_TIMEOUT=5) and point upstream base URL to a slow/unreachable endpoint.
  2. Call embeddings path and a proxied OpenAI path.
  3. Confirm both fail fast around the configured timeout instead of hanging beyond it.

Screenshots or Videos

  • N/A (backend-only timeout fix; no UI changes).
  • As-is: embeddings endpoint times out after 5 minutes, regardless of the AIOHTTP_CLIENT_TIMEOUT env variable.
