Installation Method

docker

Environment

  • Open WebUI Version: 29a2719595

  • Operating System: fedora 41

Confirmation:

  • I have read and followed all the instructions provided in the README.md.
  • I am on the latest version of both Open WebUI and Ollama.
  • I have included the browser console logs.
  • I have included the Docker container logs.
  • I have provided the exact steps to reproduce the bug in the "Steps to Reproduce" section below.

for regular user:

{"data":[]}
8be644c6633f INFO  [open_webui.routers.openai] get_all_models()
8be644c6633f INFO:     10.89.2.22:0 - "GET /ws/socket.io/?EIO=4&transport=polling&t=PFPPvZF&sid=7X-0cYaIkbUsu2-AAAAI HTTP/1.1" 200 OK
8be644c6633f INFO:     10.89.2.22:0 - "GET /api/models HTTP/1.1" 200 OK

for admin:

 [open_webui.routers.openai] get_all_models()
8be644c6633f INFO:     10.89.2.22:0 - "GET /api/models HTTP/1.1" 200 OK
{"data":[long, list, of, models]}

On version 3 it was working. I've created new test user and response for him is also empty.

Update:

BYPASS_MODEL_ACCESS_CONTROL=true

worked, but it's a bit strange that you can't tweak it from ui

Are the models set to private by chance? You can check on the model cards in Admin Panel -> Settings -> Models and then click on the pen symbol to the right of a model name to get into the menu of a model like in the screenshot. There is a "Visibility" option, where you can set the model to public or private (and set group excepts, in the screenshot the model is hidden except for admins and users that belong to "group2").
Models created in the workspace can be found in "Workspace -> Models" and have the same option on their model card.

Yep, checked random model and it's private. It will be a PITA to alter all 213 models from openrouter :)

Yeah it seems unfortunately there is no API or global setting for that. A global default for "public" would be nice, if one has so many models..

There is an env var for this. BYPASS_MODEL_ACCESS_CONTROL. Please check previous discussions and PRs before creating a new issue.

@tjbck I know it's probably a lot of work, and not the fun kind, but it would be nice to find this in the docs. The Environment Variable Configuration documentation is still from v0.3.20. To try and gather the different env vars from PRs and discussions without knowing the var name (or if they even exist) is not great.
