Ollama works on Windows 10/11, but why not the other intel based computer? iMac? (I am using the iMac 2017-model)

Could you add support for this? Thanks

Hi Rick,

I appreciate you reaching out! Interestingly, I was able to get Ollama up and running on my iMac 11,2, a 15-year-old machine running Windows 10. While it was a bit sluggish, it worked without major issues. However, I’m puzzled as to why I can’t achieve the same on my iMac 18,2, which is running macOS natively. The newer hardware should theoretically handle it better, so it’s surprising that support for Intel-based iMacs isn’t more straightforward.
I’d love to understand the technical reasons behind this limitation. If there’s a workaround or plans to expand compatibility, I’d be eager to hear your thoughts!

Thanks

The stated reason for dropping older mac support was to enable performance gains in Metal.

Thank you for adding CLI Ollama for both arm64 iMacs, and x64! The curl -fsSL https://ollama.com/install.sh | sh command is amazing!
