Summary

I'd like to propose that the official Ollama application (with its GUI) be made available directly through ollama.ai, and that cloud models be offered through the same platform.

Motivation

Currently, the Ollama GUI is available as a desktop app, and cloud models can be accessed via CLI commands. However:

  • Many users would benefit from a web-based interface that doesn’t require installing the desktop app locally.
  • Offering cloud models directly through a web portal (ollama.ai) would make Ollama more accessible to users on different devices (including tablets and phones), reduce installation friction, and broaden reach.

Proposed Solution

  • Expand ollama.ai to include the full GUI experience (similar to the desktop app).
  • Integrate the cloud models into the web platform so that users can select and interact with them through their browser.
  • Provide authentication via Ollama accounts to manage usage and access cloud compute if needed.

Potential Benefits

  • Easier onboarding for newcomers and non-technical users.
  • Cross-platform accessibility without local installation.
  • Increased discoverability of cloud offerings and features.
