The linked FAQ entry is the canonical way to disable auto-start in Windows. If you find that ollama is starting after you have disabled it in Startup Apps and logged out and in again, then that speaks to some other configuration that is not under the control of ollama. If you would like to document the steps you took to disable it and the tests you did that shows that ollama is started on machine reboot or user login, then we can try to figure out what is going on. But the original issue, how to stop ollama from auto-starting in Windows, is covered in the FAQ entry.

The issue in #8783 is not that there's no way to disable Ollama from auto-starting, it's that it's automatically registering itself as a startup program without the consent of the user.

Automatic startup without explicit opt-in is intrusive, presumptive, and reflects user-hostile design. Ollama behaves like malware.

  1. It auto start without explicit opt-in
  2. It does not have any option, in it's own settings, to disable it

Especially the 2nd point is utterly disrespectful.
