Same here, it's not letting me update ollama, even the previous setup file I have used to install is giving me same message.
I'm on Windows 11 24H2 (OS Build 26100.3476)
Current Ollama version 0.5.7 (it's setup file worked before but not working now)
Version I'm trying to install 0.6.2.0

I was able to run the installer successfully. I'm guessing someone sent a report to Microsoft. Do you want to try installing again?

I find update fails lately in Windows 11 because it uses the temp directory to run the update from. Easiest way to get it to update is to temporarily switch off defender virus checking, update, and switch back on.

From time to time we get flagged, then the binary is trusted again. I haven't heard any reports recently, so I'll assume this is no longer a problem, but if you're still seeing AV scanners flag OllamaSetup.exe or Ollama itself please let us know so we can submit the binaries to the vendor(s).

I am still seeing this today on windows 11. Security intelligence updated to latest version.
@dhiltgen - FYI I was blocked by the smart app control, so strictly speaking it wasn't an AV scanner,

For folks who are still hitting this problem of Smart App Control blocking Ollama, please share a screen shot of the block message, which Ollama version it was, and confirm you downloaded an official binary release of the Ollama installer OllamaSetup.exe from https://ollama.com/download or https://github.com/ollama/ollama/releases

For the executable that was blocked, if possible find it in Explorer, right-click, open the Properties, and click on the Digital Signatures tab, and share a screenshot of that too. According to the documentation Smart App Control shouldn't block a properly signed application, and we sign every binary release.

Unfortunately still happening (or at least happening again). I'm not able to capture a screenshot with the Smart App Control overlay, but it's identical to the one in the original post.

I can share the Digital Signatures screenshot though:

Binary is from https://ollama.com/download, downloaded today. Properties says it's 0.13.1.0.

Update: I fixed this by installing Linux. Come to think of it, that fixed a lot of other things too.

It does appear these are correctly signed binaries which should not be blocked according to the official documentation on Smart App Control. Please do click the "send feedback" and let Microsoft know they're blocking a "safe" properly signed app. We'll try to send feedback to them as well.

This approach is ok, but you can't revert back easily (to enable it back later on, google to understand the consequence). In my perspective, it is not ideal as it disabled your protection as per designed by Smart App and Browser Control. The ideal approach is to report here as well as to report it back to MS via click the "send feedback" (indicate your windows 11 version, details, etc) and complete it. Then after some days, with a later windows security update, the issue could have been addressed since you have reported it. For me, now even update to Ollama version 0.14.2 is without any issue and I still have my Smart App and Browser Control protection. Nevertheless, it is each individual's choice for whichever solution.

Most likely you have windows Smart App and Browser Control protection in place especially if you are getting the prompt that it was blocked by this Smart App Control. Also make use that you have get latest for windows security update and verify again.

If yes and still blocked by Smart App Control then as mentioned earlier, the ideal approach is to report here as well as to report it back to MS via click the "send feedback" (indicate your windows 11 version, details, etc - add more if you could like edition, build....) and complete it. Then after some days, with a later windows security update, the issue could have been addressed since you have reported it.

If you can't wait and don't bother of the Smart App and Browser Control protection, then you could choose to disable it. However, the reverse (enable back) is likely not easy - please google about it.

Well, looks like the Smart App Control is completely broken. Facing those issues with other legit apps. Windows update is fixing issues with one app and breaking others.
That's what happens when the entire OS is vibe coded lol.

This is annoying as it was allowed by Smart App Control even with updated Ollama version. However today it was blocked again. I have sent the feedback again to MS Feedback Hub via the block prompt (Send Feedback). Let's see how it goes.

Guys, FYI.... after I rolled back to Ollama v0.13.5 then it could work again so for now, I believe it is blocking updated version.

I was having the same problem, no updates found, and solved it by going to Windows 11 Security Settings, and Disabling Smart App and Browser Control.

I did exactly the same and it worked (0.15.2). Thanks

You should be able to re-enable Smart App Control through regedit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\CI\Policy\VerifiedAndReputablePolicyState

Installed it manually rather than disabling. Though if you need UI features it may require some additional work.

I've tried to install 0.14.2 according the comments, but still facing the same issue. Someone recommends a version that's not messing with Smart App Control?

This is probably going to happen randomly as new versions get released. Refer to previous fixes (i.e., disable smart app control).

OP should add this to original post ^^

Not sure there's anything the dev team can do about this.

Go to windows update and click check for update, then restart computer and try again. Usually works in a day of a new release.

Yep, this is exactly what I had to do. Turned out I had missed some security updates. Restarted and success.
