Vijay Janapa Reddi 570f1e9061 cleanup: remove build artifacts, cache files, and empty catalogs 
Remove obsolete files that should not be tracked:
- 3 diagram PDF cache files (auto-generated by Quarto)
- 4 empty footnote_catalog.json files

All removed files are build artifacts or empty placeholders
that provide no ongoing value.
