bug description

Videos downloaded from twitter have bugged playback to the point of being unwatchable. Videos will have approximately two seconds of delay where sound plays but the video is frozen, only to then resume playback to normal, sometimes the sound is nearly a full 10 seconds ahead, other times it's a weird mix. This was tested on VLC, Windows Photos Legacy and Movies and TV. Discord can play the videos normally.

reproduction steps

  1. Grab any video link from Twitter
  2. Download it
  3. Play the video back in VLC/Windows Photos Legacy/Movies and TV

screenshots

Playback from VLC, Photos Legacy, and Movies and TV for a video I downloaded today. This isn't the only video affected, this is how all the videos are played back.

platform information

Windows 10, Firefox Version 139.0.4 (64-Bit), VLC 3.0.20 Vetinari

additional context

There was also issues with gifs not playing, but it seems to be different from link to link, I can't seem to reproduce it accurately even with the same gifs from the same tweets.

This is also an issue with external Twitter downloaders, such as x-downloader dot com

this is not an issue with cobalt, but with twitter's muxer. cobalt doesn't modify videos from twitter in any way, and even opens the direct link to the file.

you can try to remux affected files at https://cobalt.tools/remux for compatibility with windows media player, but other than that we can't do anything about it. you also didn't provide any sample links, so i can't look further into it.
