Is this suited for github?

  • Yes, this is suited for github

To Reproduce

authClient.signUp.email({ email, password })

Typescript complains about a missing name field

Current vs. Expected behavior

I do not expect to provide a "name" argument to create a user. What is the point of this?

What version of Better Auth are you using?

1.4.10

@better-auth-agent[bot] commented on GitHub (Jan 4, 2026):

The name parameter is required in the authClient.signUp.email function because it ensures that user registrations include essential information. This change aligns with recent updates to enforce the inclusion of the name field, improving consistency in user data across the application. Previously, users could sign up with just an email and password; however, to enhance user registration and experience, the name field was made mandatory [2], [5], [7].

If you have further questions or need clarification on implementing this in your app, feel free to ask! What kind of authentication flow are you looking to implement?

Hi @james-tindal,

I agree with this as well. I'll discuss it with the team.

As a workaround, just provide the email in the name field.
