I think a more decentralized/distributed/standards compliant network (IRC or XMPP) would better suit self hosting communities. Please do some research as I'm sure that such channels/chat rooms already exist. Feel free to add active self-hosting community links here

Gitter would be ok for coordinating work on this repository itself, but as it is now I think github issues are sufficient.
