What is this Python project?

Alpha matting describes the problem of separating the objects in the foreground from the background of an image given only a rough sketch. We introduce the PyMatting library for Python which implements various approaches to solve the alpha matting problem and to perform foreground extraction.

What's the difference between this Python project and similar ones?

PyMatting is easy to use and implemented very efficiently with minimal dependencies. It provides an easy way to compare multiple alpha matting and foreground estimation methods.
