We are a group of researchers working on an open data and open machine learning plattform OpenML.org which already has ~20.000 datasets for which you can filter for specific properties on https://www.openml.org/search?type=data. Besides of running algorithms to the datasets, you can download (and upload) the datasets through the WEB (or through an REST API) as an ARFF file (e.g. the iris data https://www.openml.org/d/61).
I like this repository. I have seen many datasets here, some of them are free available and I am planning to import the datasets listed here that have a free licence to OpenML (this will take some time but I am also looking for people that would like to help with that, so just let me know if someone is interested).
