Bitwarden Beta

  • I'm using the new native Bitwarden Beta app and I'm aware that legacy .NET app bugs should be reported in bitwarden/mobile

Steps To Reproduce

  1. Use a Material You "black" theme (where the background color is pitch black)
  2. Open Bitwarden and set your theme to "System" in the settings

Expected Result

The background should be black, as specified by my phone's Material You theme.

Actual Result

The background is grey, which makes a big difference on an OLED display.

Screenshots or Videos

Android settings with black background (applies to most apps):

Environment Details

  • Device: Google Pixel 3a
  • OS version: 21-20240817-NIGHTLY-sargo
  • Android version: 14

Issue Tracking Info

  • I understand that work is tracked outside of Github. A PR will be linked to this issue should one be opened to address it, but Bitwarden doesn't use fields like "assigned", "milestone", or "project" to track progress.

This should have been closed as a duplicate feature request instead of a bug. Material You (not to be conflated with Material Design) was not implemented until #4850. It will be available in the next release.

@TheSunCat Just so you're aware, you will have to enable Dynamic colors in Bitwarden's Settings and apply a black wallpaper to achieve the True Black background you're expecting. The default dark mode color scheme defined in Bitwarden explicitly uses our brand colors. You're welcome to file a feature request if you would like to see a True Black color scheme option added.
