Original GitHub issue: https://github.com/bitwarden/android/issues/5218

Origin

Native Application (non-browser app)

Web URL or App name

Android App

Passkey Action

  • Creating new passkey (Registration)
  • Signing in (Authentication)

Build Information

2025.4.0 (20100)

Additional Information

If the android app has no connection to the vault, authentication with passkeys is not possible.

I'm using a self hosted server that is only accessible with an VPN connection. Without the server connection, I can use the stored passwords as advertised but I can't use the stored passkeys.

Selecting a passkey from browser or other apps seems to load for a while and then sends the user back to the browser/app but without the passkey actually working.

As passkeys shouldn't need a vault connection to authenticate, this seems to be a bug.

Issue Tracking Info

  • I understand that work is tracked outside of Github. A PR will be linked to this issue should one be opened to address it, but Bitwarden doesn't use fields like "assigned", "milestone", or "project" to track progress.
