I am not using folders, instead I am just having an alphabetical list of my bitwarden entries. Previously the android app showed the list of all entries just right after starting it. But since the last update I think, I always have to select "no folder" from the folder list that appears, to see my entries. I have no folders configured, so the only item showing up in the folder list is "no folder", which is quite useless in that case. I don't know if this change is intended or not, but I would like to request that at least if there are no folders configured, the app would show all the credential entries immediately and no folder list

I am not able to reproduce this. I have a test account here with 2 items in it, no folder, and I do not have to select no folder, as expected.

Is your account part of an organization?

Afaik I am not part of an organization. All I did regarding to this, is that I once clicked the "share vault" entry under the tools tab. I was just interested to see what happend and what was possible but honestly I just closed the opening web page immediately, so in fact I did not create any organization.

I just realized that I have the same behaviour using the chrome extension of bitwarden. Actually, I am not sure if it was different before, but when I go to "My Vault" I see the following lists:

Types (4)

  • Login (124)
  • Card (2)
  • Identity (0)
  • Secure Note (12)

Folders (0)

  • No Folder (138)

and I have to explicitely select "No Folder" to see all entries.
Version of the Chrome extension that I am using is 1.29.0
The Android App is 1.18.0 (1493)

Hope this info helps you. Could this possibly related to the fact that I have not only login data types in my vault but also cards and secure notes? Just an idea.

@pmattke did you recently go over 100 items in your vault? I believe that is the threshold when it switches to the alternate view of always showing things in folders.

Yeah that's true. If there is such a threshould, I think this could be the reason. Because I have been adding a bunch of logins for different sites and I think, at some time during that, the app updated, so I thought it would be a new bug or feature from the update, but I think it was about the same time when I got over 100 items.

Is there a specific reason for this threshold? Because imho, there is never a benefit in showing a folder list that shows just one "no folder" item. No matter if I have more or less then 100 items. It also brings no benefit in performance like "don't show such a big list" because, when you go inside "no folder", it would render this "big list" of > 100 items anyway.

I think it was just assumed that users with larger vaults would be using folders is all.

Then I would suggest to remove this threshold and only start with folder view, if there are actually real folders to view

@kspearrin I currently use folders but in fact when I need an item I just search for it. I never really use the folder structure I put in place. + It's one more thing to maintain. I guess if you have good naming you don't really need folders.

I'd like to see the search improved though (I'm aware of https://community.bitwarden.com/t/advanced-vault-searching/36)

Please hide the folders if there are no folders used
