[PM-28053] Android app crashes when unlocking while sync server returns error 405 #2380

Steps To Reproduce

  1. Have Bitwarden app vault synced to an address
  2. Have Bitwarden app vault locked
  3. Connect to a network where that same address redirects to an active web server that does not have Bitwarden
  4. Unlock Bitwarden vault

Expected Result

Bitwarden fails to sync on unlock and behaves as if the application is offline.

Actual Result

Application crashes.

Additional Context

This was not the behaviour last week. I assume it's a change from some update.

My configuration:

Bitwarden server is hosted on a network that is not exposed to incoming WAN requests. The local DNS server is configured to resolve the Bitwarden address to the Bitwarden service. The DNS in WAN is managed via Cloudflare nameservers. Cloudflare DNS is configured to send all requests to a plug static web page. Resulting behaviour is that Bitwarden address when requested from local network resolves to the Bitwarden service, while the same address requested from WAN resolves to a static web page.

Self-host

  • Device: Google Pixel 7A
  • Android version: 16

Android app crashes upon unlocking when server is not accessible
Problem occurs regardless biometric or password unlocking
Worked 1 week ago
No problem when server is reachable
Self-hosted server and I only use the app in offline mode so :(

App version : 2025.10.1 (20867)
Android version : 16

EDIT : No issue with app version 2025.10.0 (20794) on Android 14
