Steps To Reproduce

  1. Open the Android app
  2. Go to Settings > Account Security
  3. In the Unlock Options, there's no option "Unlock with biometrics"

Expected Result

The option should be there (as it was always there during the past few years I've used the app)

Actual Result

The option disappeared suddenly (it was there until even 2 days ago, but suddenly disappeared).

Additional Context

  • It's worth noting that nothing (literally noting) changed on my part, and the option used to be there before, but suddenly disappeared
  • I've tried:
    • Uninstalling/re-installing the app
    • Doing the full power cycle (shutdown and power on)
    • Uninstalling -> full power cycle -> install -> full power cycle
    • Clearing cache/storage
    • Contacted Bitwarden support (got back "generic" responses)
    • Asked on Reddit (got back responses, with people saying "it's weird")
  • I've taken photos using another phone and attached to the issue (Bitwarden app doesn't let me take screenshots)

Hello @farzadmf,

Thank you for this report. Just to make sure that you and I are on the same page, which biometric method (fingerprint or facial recognition) is activated in the operating system?

Thank you,

Hi @SergeantConfused , thank you for your reply and sorry for the late reply on my side (love your Github username BTW 😉 )

When I opened other apps that were using biometrics, I noticed that they're broken too.

As it turns out, for whatever reason that's beyond me, the option to allow biometrics was disabled (maybe when I updated my device?!):

Settings → Security & Privacy → Device Unlock → Fingerprint & Face Unlock → Verify it’s you in apps

(thanks to Bitwarden support to point me to that option)

I had no idea about that option, so it couldn't have been me disabling it. Now, as I said, why would an update (or something else) disable this option is beyond me!

But anyways ... Thank you again, and I consider my issue to have been solved, so I'm gonna close this issue.
