What happened?

  • I had a negative budget due to over-budgetting
  • I wanted to cover this over-budget by taking from one of my categories
  • I clicked on "cover from a category" and selected a category with enough balance
  • I expected the balance of this category to reduce (possibly with a negative budget on the corresponding month) and the budget to be set to 0
  • Nothing happened after clicking "transfer"

How can we reproduce the issue?

  • Go to a future month with no budget (all set to 0)
  • Set a budget of 20 to any category
    • The monthly budget should now be -20
  • Click on the monthly budget and cover it with any other category with 20+ balance to it
  • Nothing happens

The cover feature does not allow categories to be made negative, it looks to have been an intentional design choice in https://github.com/actualbudget/actual/pull/5988
