Verified feature request does not already exist?

  • I have searched and found no existing issue

💻

  • Would you like to implement this feature?

Pitch: what problem are you trying to solve?

For those paid fortnightly or weekly, the templates can over-allocate income. For example #template 10 repeat every 2 weeks starting 2026-01-01 when run it puts 20 in the budget directly (even if that income hasn't arrived yet in the month).

Describe your ideal solution to this problem

What I would be interested in is to set up a template for each category that will "add" funds every time it's run, so in the previous example the category budget would be set to 10 when run the first time, then 20 when run the second time.

This will let people run a bunch of templates to allocate the first set of income in the month for a few categories, and then the "To Budget" amount will be accurate for manually sorting the rest between discretionary categories. Then come the next income, re-run the templates to add the news funds to the months budget.

I realize the goal is to get a month ahead so this wouldn't be needed, but that's not always achievable all the time.

Or have I missed something and this can already be done?

You might want to look at template priorities. There is a blog post describing a method. https://actualbudget.org/blog/2024-03-25-goal-templates-with-a-twist/

Actually, after some more thinking, this might be better achieved with #1201?

Thanks, I think that might work. I hadn't realized that was possible.

Sorry, I didn't understand how the feature requests work, and I was searching for open issues.
