💻
Pitch: what problem are you trying to solve?
I routinely have overspent categories in my budget that I leave for end of month cleanup, and the new overspent category banner-while looking great-takes up a lot of screen space on mobile, which is where I primarily use Actual.
Describe your ideal solution to this problem
Add toggle option in the settings to disable this banner, either just on mobile or on just desktop, or simply for both at once.
Teaching and learning
Perhaps the first time the banner shows up, it also displays in smaller text inside the banner:
“disable this banner in settings”

@psybers commented on GitHub (Jul 31, 2025):
@albertogasparin Maybe there does not need to be an option to toggle it on/off, but rather the feature could filter out any categories with a 0 budget?
@YusefOuda commented on GitHub (Jul 31, 2025):
I still find the banner rather obtrusive in a tracking budget. Here's my workflow:
At the beginning of each month, I enter an amount for each category in the budgeted column. This amount is my target for the month. As the month progresses, some months may get "overspent" over the target, but it's not something which needs to be rectified. It's helpful to see how far off from the targets I was come the end of the month. "Covering" the overspending by increasing the budgeted amounts just doesn't make sense to me in a tracking budget
@psybers commented on GitHub (Jul 31, 2025):
@YusefOuda yes that is why 'cover' was removed from the popup. So now it just tells you what is overspent.
@YusefOuda commented on GitHub (Jul 31, 2025):
Understood, but usually a red banner like that is prompting a user to take some immediate action
@psybers commented on GitHub (Jul 31, 2025):
True! Maybe the action is "spend less money"? 😆
@albertogasparin commented on GitHub (Jul 31, 2025):
For my way of using actual, where all budgets are 0 (unset), the idea to filter out any category where the budget is 0 would work fine (and if all are 0 then hide the banner entirely)
@imichaelv commented on GitHub (Sep 4, 2025):
If this option is available, is it possible that the overspending "bug" can be toggled as a feature aswel?
It's not a bug it's a feature (and I've used this feature for overspending a lot and am sad to see this post https://github.com/actualbudget/actual/issues/5022 🥲
