What happened?

If an account has the running balance enabled, the balance will show when entering a new transaction. The amount shown includes upcoming schedules, instead of the current balance.

But really, adding a transaction probably shouldn't show a running balance anyway.

In the image above, see that the amount in the new transaction runninng balance is the same as the running balance for the schedule below it instead of the last real transaction.

That would be better, but really there isn't any benefit to showing the running balance at all when adding a new transaction.
