Feature Request

Problem

Actual does a great job tracking finances and budgets. For users who also invest (which many budget-conscious people do), there's an opportunity to add lightweight investment decision support.

Proposal

Add optional investment-related features such as:

  • A simple "investment journal" where users can log buy/sell decisions with their reasoning
  • Behavioral nudges during high-volatility periods (e.g., "Markets dropped 5% today. Remember: time in market beats timing the market")
  • Links to educational resources when users view investment accounts

Context

Research shows that investors who keep written records of their decisions perform significantly better over time (Buffett has been doing this since 1956). Combining budgeting discipline with investment discipline in one tool would be a unique value proposition.

Resources

Some open educational content that could complement this:

This is just an idea — Actual's focus on simplicity is a strength, so this would need to be optional and non-intrusive.

Was worth a try :)

Please follow the usual flow for creating feature requests: "New issue" -> "Feature request". Creating an issue this way triggers other automations that we use for FR issues.
