  • Would you like to implement this feature?

Pitch: what problem are you trying to solve?

Currently, Actual Budget’s experimental currency display does not include any support for AED (United Arab Emirates Dirham) or SAR (Saudi Riyal).
Users in the GCC region are therefore unable to display or label their budgets with their local currencies — making it harder to interpret balances, compare figures, or share screenshots with others who expect to see local monetary symbols.

In 2025, both AED and SAR received official new currency symbols, and adding these would make Actual’s experimental currency display more inclusive and globally representative.

This feature would directly help users in the Middle East (and international users dealing with AED/SAR accounts) by improving localization, visual clarity, and professional presentation.

Describe your ideal solution to this problem

Add AED (United Arab Emirates Dirham) and SAR (Saudi Riyal) as available currencies in the experimental currency display system.

Implement the official 2025 symbols for each currency if technically feasible and supported by system fonts:

AED: new symbol introduced in 2025 (Unicode proposal pending adoption) Wikipedia SVG Official Source

SAR: new symbol introduced in 2025 (Unicode proposal pending adoption) Wikipedia SVG Official Source

If Unicode adoption is not yet complete, use fallback glyphs or custom SVG/font assets to render the symbols consistently.

Ensure symbols appear across all UI components that currently show currency symbols (account list, transaction view, reports, and budget overview).

Ideally, allow users to set AED or SAR as the experimental “budget currency” in the settings once implemented.

Documentation: Add AED and SAR to the list of supported currencies in the multi-currency documentation page
