Original problem resolved.

It was a combination of caching and dynamic dns.

However, the account I had added before the update is missing along with its imported transactions.

What happened?

I was trying to login after update to 26.2.1

Running via docker-compose. Access server via https using Reverse Proxy on Synology

After update, login proceeded as normal. File looks good. Made some changes. Added some new rules.

Chose “switch file”. “Closing” appeared on screen for a while and did not disappear.

Reload page. Blank page loads with Actual bg image but no text entry fields to log in. “Connected to” server at bottom of screen shows correct URL.

Attempted clear cache, different browser (on Mac), iOS Safari. Restarted container. Redownloaded image using Portainer.

No change.

NOTE: “Initializing
Connection to the local database” appears briefly on load or reload but disappears quickly, leaving blank space page as described.

NOTE: If I bypass Reverse Proxy by loading local URL the file loads but does not appear to include any changes made to transactions or the new account added today.

How can we reproduce the issue?

See steps above.

Where are you hosting Actual?

Docker

What browsers are you seeing the problem on?

Safari

Operating System

Mac OSX

@PJWtech commented on GitHub (Feb 26, 2026):

Update: This has been a real adventure. I think I need a better understanding of where changes reside before sync to server.

After resolving the original issue, I returned to the device (Mac) where I had previously made a number of changes and additions-new account, import transactions, add rules. Lo and behold, everything was there. I chose "sync" and the connection to server seemed to fail.

Upon logging back in, the changes were once again gone.

In my case, none of this is tragic since I am just exploring Actual, but clearly this would be a major concern for ongoing use.

Thanks.
