Verified issue does not already exist?

  • I have searched and found no existing issue

What happened?

A bug happened!

^ Love it. I had to leave it here as it truly made me giggle. Anywho!

I'm getting an error message when I open Actual Budget or "Actual" as the program name states.

It doesn't really give me any other identification info to help diagnose or troubleshoot. I just installed this program this morning and was just starting to use it.

What I've tried thus far:

  1. Closed the app and re opened (several times)
  2. Updating Windows to latest (I had a Windows Update ready)
  3. Restarting PC
  4. Launched app as administrator

What I know:

  1. I installed this either yesterday night or this morning. (Both are a little fuzzy, lack of sleep, lack of coffee. We'll just leave it at within the last 24 hours and not judge, that work? Great!)
  2. It WAS working fine as I started playing around with setting up transactions and schedules. Getting a little down and dirty with the application itself.
  3. I did NOT make any changes to the configuration of the app or system settings.
  4. App version is displaying v26.1.0 (Bravo for following modern standard code release format 🎉 )
  5. I have NOT connected it to a server as of yet. I wanted to see what I thought and felt before I continued to invest more time into setting up other functions of it. Selfish of me, I know.. You judgmental little buggar. 🧐

6 ft, 220 lbs, no banana for scale. I ate it.

Thanks,
Blade

How can we reproduce the issue?

Each time I open it, I get the same message and it just sits there with the "swirl of death".

Where are you hosting Actual?

Desktop App (Electron)

What browsers are you seeing the problem on?

Desktop App (Electron)

Operating System

Windows 11

Missing reproduction information.

Most likely some misconfiguration of your instance. Please reach out to the community for tech support on the community discord.

@MatissJanis what information would you like?

I literally open the program and that's as far as I get. I have not changed the configuration from the default.

I had already opened a thread on discord but it has not had any traction.

I guess I can't understand closing this without any resolution.

Most of our community members are active on discord, so we direct all tech support requests there. You'll be in a much better position to bump the thread on discord that has >10k members than opening an issue on github which is monitored by ~5 people.

Unless it's a reproducable error - there is really nothing I could do on here unfortunately.

Reinstalled the program itself, no change.

Was advised via discord that the budget "data" files are located in "Actual" folder inside "Documents" folder. Renamed folder to Actual_Old and reopened Actual Budget and worked afterwards.

Edit:
For clarification. the "Documents" folder mentioned above is referring to the "My Documents" Folder on your PC. Not a folder located inside the Application directory.
