Pitch: what problem are you trying to solve?
Hi,
I'm starting to use Actual and wanted to setup GoCardless API given my bank is supported by their BankAccountData API.
However, after struggling to create a non business account, i contacted the support to get some info and they basically told me that for new customers, they discontinued the API for personal users.
Is there any plan or alternative that could be implemented inside Actual ? I know Bankin API can be hijacked a tiny bit to recover my transactions, but I'm not sure that's viable long term.
Thanks !

Alternatives are few and far between and the only free option I could find is the Enable Banking API. They allow free usage for bank accounts linked directly to your API login. I'd love to have an integration for it.
@pogman-code commented on GitHub (Aug 6, 2025):
I use woob to generate OFX files for my account.
I was wondering recently if it could be directly integrated to actual like gocardless is.
See: https://woob.tech/applications/bank.html
@amrawadk commented on GitHub (Aug 24, 2025):
FYI, I built Lunch Flow which integrates with multiple open banking providers, including Gocardless. I'd be happy to build an integration with Actual Budget if there is interest from the community 😀
Unlike Enable Banking's developer access, it'd be a paid service, although only a few pounds a month, to ensure the service is sustainable and well maintained. But the upside is you get a well maintained product, which is constantly getting updated based on feedback, and you get Gocardless coverage, which I believe is bigger than Enable Banking's coverage.
@Kidglove57 commented on GitHub (Aug 24, 2025):
@amrawadk I came across Lunchflow when I was trialling Lunch Money. As an alternative where Plaid was not available. So I can see that you already have a track record with an established app.
Being entirely selfish the benefit for me would be that it would include UK banks, which Enable does not and that it is likely to be more sustainable than any “free” offering.
@tjfinlinson commented on GitHub (Aug 25, 2025):
This integration would be great. I like that it includes Finicity, MX, and others for a larger access to financial institutions. Adding my vote to implement this along with those that are already there.
@cpdorey18 commented on GitHub (Aug 30, 2025):
This would certainly be enormous value for those in the UK....including myself (Enable Banking does not include UK banks)
@munchingfoo commented on GitHub (Sep 2, 2025):
@amrawadk you'd have a UK customer in me for life if you integrate with actual. 👯♂️
@amrawadk commented on GitHub (Sep 2, 2025):
Thank you all for the overwhelming feedback 👍 Clearly there's a need. I'm building the integration now, feel free to subscribe to this feedback post to be notified once it's live, would love your help testing it 😀
@MatissJanis commented on GitHub (Sep 2, 2025):
👋 howdy from the maintainer team.
Love the enthusiasm here. We definitely need an alternative for Gocardless, but we're also quite conservative on what banksync providers we mainline. This is to protect our users from having their data stolen. We evaluate each banksync provider individually and have already decided to reject a few.
So my recommendation here is - if you wish to add a new provider - please reach out to me or someone else from the team on Discord. We wouldn't want anyone to waste their time building an integration for it to be rejected.
Hope you folks understand.
@amrawadk commented on GitHub (Sep 2, 2025):
@MatissJanis I completely understand. I reached out to you over Discord. Talk soon 😄

@amrawadk commented on GitHub (Sep 12, 2025):
Hi 👋
Thank you all once more for the feedback. @MatissJanis shared that after a discussion with the team, they will not be merging any new open banking providers into AB, but will rather be working on a plugin system for open banking providers, that they hope will be ready by the end of this year. I'll let him share any additional comments if needed.
In the meantime, I'm more than happy to build an import script (like Plaid's or YNAB's), to import accounts and transactions from Lunch Flow, let me know if you would find that valuable. You can also already export from Lunch Flow to csv or OFX files, or use the API, and import those to AB.
@amrawadk commented on GitHub (Sep 19, 2025):
Hey 👋
After working hard for the past few days, the first version of the import script is now available :D You can get started with a single command:
Here’s a demo of how it works.

Looking forward to your feedback 😀
@Dlougach commented on GitHub (Oct 17, 2025):
As great as LunchFlow may be - many people are using ActualBudget because it turns out to be cheaper than many alternatives (Emma/YNAB/etc). However at the current LunchFlow pricing model depends on number of connections, and the point when the alternatives become cheaper is fairly low (around 5 connections).
@amrawadk commented on GitHub (Oct 30, 2025):
I hear you. It's definitely a challenging balance to strike. I'd love to build something sustainable, and at the same time affordable for individuals.
YNAB's pricing is 15$/m, or 109$/year, so I'm not sure how it's comparable to Lunch Flow at 5 connections, and that's with more limited bank coverage compared to Lunch Flow. I haven't used Emma, so can't comment on it, but neither of these are open source or self hosted, like Actual.
I'd love to offer even more competitive prices in Lunch Flow, but there is a reason why there are very limited providers aimed towards individual use cases, because the high provider min monthly costs, regulatory requirements and technical complexity means you need a very high number of users to be able to offer lower prices.
I am working to get there, and I'm optimistic, which is why for the past 13+ months, I have been investing my money and time into Lunch Flow 😀 With that said, I'm very open to feedback, and if someone wants to have a chat around pricing, more than happy to do so and share more on the reasoning behind it, and open on ideas to improve.
P.S. Github notifications are too busy, which is why I missed this for nearly 2 weeks 😅 But I'm always a message away at amr@lunchflow.app.
P.P.S. Sorry for the large wall of text 🧱

What about Aiia data by Mastercard?
It has good coverage in Europe: https://developer.mastercard.com/open-finance-europe/documentation/unlicensed/aiia-data/production/supported-providers/
But unfortunately, it seems like you have to contact them (and pay) to get access to production data:
@MatissJanis commented on GitHub (Nov 22, 2025):
Quick update on EnableBanking:
I spoke with their CTO earlier this week. They are very interested to offer a free alternative to Gocardless for Actual users. The set-up will be very similar to Gocardless where you sign up for their service, get an API key and use that. Here is the doc they sent me.
But before we proceed: they will work on updating their terms of service to allow individuals using their product (which is currently catered more towards businesses). Once the terms of service are updated - we can unblock the work already done in this PR.
They do not store or monetize user data; data privacy is on of their core tenets.
My hope is we get this done & released for the 26.1.0 release (beginning of January, 2026).
--
As for other bank sync providers: we are generally very cautious adding 3rd parties in the core product, but we hope the plugin system (once done & released) will allow adding them outside the master branch. Thus it would not be a direct endorsement, but rather a "use-at-own-risk" situation.
--
That's all for now.
@Dlougach commented on GitHub (Nov 22, 2025):
Does EnableBanking support any UK banks? The webpage they have here doesn't show anything.
@AntonPalmqvist commented on GitHub (Dec 10, 2025):
Re: UK banks, Tink supports 3000+ banks, including UK banks. They don't seem to have an open API though, but if someone can sweet talk them to open up for an open source cause, that could be an alternative?
@FrancisHGR commented on GitHub (Jan 6, 2026):
Awesome piece of software, thanks a lot to everyone involved.
Is there a new ETA for Enable Banking support after it wasn't included in 26.1.0?
@Backspaze commented on GitHub (Jan 6, 2026):
@FrancisHGR There's a more recent comment here, which I think is about as close to an ETA as we're going to get at the moment.
@MatissJanis commented on GitHub (Jan 10, 2026):
Update on EnableBanking:
They have now updates their terms of service. Long story short - it is now free for personal use.
This means we can unblock the EB integration into actual. There is a WIP branch here, but I don't think the original author is still around. If anyone wants to take over that - feel free to. I'll be happy to review!
@j21w91 commented on GitHub (Feb 27, 2026):
Nothing for UK banks? Makes ActualBudget unusable for me, as I don't want to do manual imports
