  • Would you like to implement this feature?

Pitch: what problem are you trying to solve?

When I plan a monthly budget I look at recurring / planned transactions and then calculate how much money I need to allocate for that specific category. I would love to have the option to have budgets pre-filled based on these recurring transactions, or at least to have them hinted at in something like a tooltip. This would purely be a quality of life improvement for my use-case.

Describe your ideal solution to this problem

I'm aware that not every user may have a use for the proposed feature, so it could be implemented with varying levels of user input / manual steps required.

  1. The least intrusive option could be to add an entry to the hamburger menu on the top right corner of the budget page, right next to the month, where users are currently presented with the option of copying earlier months budgets. This entry could be called something like "Prefill budgets based on recurring transactions".
  2. Another option could be to automatically prefill the budget for each recurring transaction, for which the user has checked the "automatically add transaction" checkbox. Alternatively, instead of prefilling the budget, the user could be presented with a tooltip next to each category in the budget overview, which reveals a list of all applicable recurring transactions and their total sum for that month
  3. Like option 2, but instead of showing a tooltip, a click on the allocated budget of the respective category could reveal a popup, which lists the portion of the allocated budget that stems from recurring transactions and the portion that was freely assigned
3.1. If the user choses not to prefill the budget and then proceeds to allocate less money than the total sum of recurring transactions, he could be presented with a warning / hint like "You allocated X but the recurring transactions alone will make up Y"

Budget templates do this already: https://actualbudget.org/docs/experimental/goal-templates
