Edit: this feature has since been implemented

Verified feature request does not already exist?

  • I have searched and found no existing issue

💻

  • Would you like to implement this feature?

Pitch: what problem are you trying to solve?

I'd like to be able to track the balance of a category budget over time. This is most useful for categories that are "sinking funds" like "Savings" and you're trying to understand how the balance has changed over time.

I'd like help understanding how to implement this feature. What would be required of the backend? of the front end? Is there a good test data set to use while implementing something like this?

Thanks!

Describe your ideal solution to this problem

A separate report that could be a new custom report or one of the standard reports.

Teaching and learning

This can be also listed in the documentation for users to find.

This would be great.

The reports only deal with transactions and not categories....if the spirit of Actual is envelope budgeting...you would think there would be a way to visualize the balance of each envelope.

Just in case anyone has missed it, this was introduced as an experimental feature in 26.02.
