Verified feature request does not already exist?

  • I have searched and found no existing issue

💻

  • Would you like to implement this feature?

Pitch: what problem are you trying to solve?

I am used to systems like ServiceNow or Salesforce where you can dynamically create filters based on the rows of the tables. In Actual Budget, when I'm looking at transactions, I often want to filter on a specific aspect of the transaction. Today I need to go to filters, select the one I want, and then type out the values. For example, I often want to filter based on payees, sometimes the text is wild so I want to see all the transactions. I need to type it out and then for whatever reason I lose my place on longer ones.

Describe your ideal solution to this problem

Ideally, for each field in a row in the transaction, right clicking that field allows me to add it to the filter with simple actions like "Match same value" or "Filter out value" or something like that. Once it's in the filter, I can edit the filter myself if I want it more complicated.

Teaching and learning

In the documentation, make the right-click rules on transactions more obvious and explained. Then you can have a whole section about filtering ease with that menu. Also add it to the Tips & Tricks documentation area. The feature itself should be pretty self-discoverable, I right click on transactions all the time, even by accident.
