Verified issue does not already exist?

  • I have searched and found no existing issue

What happened?

Windows 11 laptop (running in S mode). First time user, installed the app via the Microsoft Store as required by S mode. Installed successfully. On first load I get the "configure your server" page, but wish to use it without a server so I click "Don't use a server". On the "Let's get started" page I click "Start fresh" as I have been a YNAB4 user for many years so I don't need the demo setup. It starts to generate the new files but immediately gives a pop-up in the bottom right corner saying "Something went wrong internally. [etc etc]" and the "Creating budget..." spinning circle stays endlessly.

If I close the app and re-open it I am presented with the following:

Clicking it gives this error:

Extra info: I can select to delete the budget file from in the GUI but it doesn't remove it. I can see that in my Documents folder there is a folder with two files in it:

Edit to add: The same thing happens if I attempt to start with the demo budget file.
Edit 2 to add: Running as admin does not help. Uninstalling and reinstalling also does not help.

How can we reproduce the issue?

See above.

Where are you hosting Actual?

None

What browsers are you seeing the problem on?

No response

Operating System

Windows 11

Just to add - I used another PC to generate an empty/fresh budget file that is functioning fine on the other PC. I then copied that to the Documents/Actual directory on the fresh install on the Laptop I want to run it. Upon reloading Actual Budget I can see this file in the list of files:

But clicking on it gives this:

Hey @sagramore , would you be able to open up devtools using the View menu:

Image

And then take a screenshot or copy/paste any error in the console? That should help us narrow it down a bit.

Hi @MikesGlitch, I'm afraid that as my wife needed the install to work I carried on testing and switching the laptop out of S mode made it work immediately, so while I can't give you the information you asked for I can certainly confirm it relates to Windows S mode.
