Pitch: what problem are you trying to solve?

It would be incredibly useful to have the ability to track the balance of a specific category over time on the Reports page, similar to how spending trends are visualized. For sinking funds or long-term savings goals, users often carry over unused category balances from month to month.

Being able to see the track the category balance (not just spending) over time would help visualize how much is being carried forward or built up over time.

This can be especially helpful for categories like:

  • Car maintenance
  • Vacation
  • Emergency fund
  • Medical expenses

Describe your ideal solution to this problem

  • Add an option to generate a line graph report that shows the monthly ending balance of a selected category or category group
  • Optional: Allow users to selected multiple categories to aggregate balances over time or alternatively the selection of multiple categories to compare trends
