Description

Is there a plan to translate the documentation into other languages as well? The non‑technical sections might be particularly interesting for users.

This is a huge undertaking for several reasons:

  1. Getting this done in the first place is a high investment in time and effort. I have done several (medium to big) translation in my time and translating is more than just translating sentence by sentence. Done that way, the translation becomes quite stale and dull and add bad grammar and language on top. Good translations, on the other hands, are very often rewriting whole paragraphs to fit not only the local language, but also fit the translation into a cultural aspects.
  2. The documentation change, albeit not every day, but several times a month. Keeping track of what needs to be retranslated will become labour intensive.

When this is said and done: Anyone is welcome to start translating the body of documentation into any language they see fit. This would be very welcome.

In the meantime, translation wise let's start getting more of the program itself translated.

PS: We could possibly use AI to help ou. Example is OpenAI GPT 4 model which provides OK (but not good) translations into Norwegian. If this is done, we need to do this during the build process - and probably pay for API access. :DS
