Verified feature request does not already exist?

  • I have searched and found no existing issue

💻

  • Would you like to implement this feature?

Pitch: what problem are you trying to solve?

The specific use case that brought to request such a feature is the need to visualize the total spending for a category including future transactions, functionality that I believe is not available with reports. For example, I am planning a trip that requires a downpayment for an apartment and a second payment at a later date which I already registered with the account from which I will pay.
I want to visualize how much I already allocated for that trip without having to set a filter each time I go in the accounts view.

Describe your ideal solution to this problem

A feature that I feel actual budget lacks is the possibility to create account views, what I mean by that are sort of preconfigured filtered views of the account view, both applicable on a single account and on multiple accounts.
Even a quick filter possibly with a name to choose from a list would be a quick and dirty valid alternative and would also serve many other use cases.

While writing this I also thought that this use case could be covered by adding the possibility to set a date range that spans into the future months in the reports.

Please let me know if there is already a way to do this easily, if not I think that this would be very useful feature to add to the reports/account views.

Teaching and learning

If the feature will be realized in the reports section, simply allowing selection a "To:" future date in the reports editing page would be the right spot, as well as documenting it in the appropriate documentation page, same thing for the accounts view option.

Thanks for sharing your idea!

Anyone that has any suggestions, please feel free to comment! I would also gladly accept workaround for this use case, but I think that a feature like this one would be a useful addition.

We have the ability to save filters under a name if you click the dropdown on the right with a filter active. Does that cover this use-case?

Yes I found out about it after the issue, anyway it would be nice to be able to select future dates in the reports to show a graph of projected expenses for a certain category.
