I set up a transaction as a split between 2 categories. Then I realized I wanted to categorize it as one of my Income categories, and then budget it into those other 2 categories. But I can't find a way to remove the split. I can change one of the split categories to the Income one, but I can't delete the other category, or change it from "split" type of transaction.

If I change the first split category to the income category that I want, and change the Deposit amount to the full amount received, and remove the 2nd category and zero out its Deposit amount, It does show up as income, but the transaction still displays as a split, and now has an empty category.

Slight addition to above. I did finally realize that there's a little checkbox in front of the Notes field of each split. And if you click on that, the "1 Transaction" link up top right shows up, and you're able to delete the one of the split transactions. However, even though there is only one transaction now, it's still showing as a split transaction. If you have split transactions collapsed, you're unable to tell what category it's assigned to.

Hey! If you delete all of the split transactions, it will turn back into a normal transaction. Delete them by selecting them and press "d".

I agree there some of this could be more intuitive. I plan on working in a table rewrite that will change some of this UX.

Thanks, I was half way there! Lol. That makes sense, just need to delete that last split transaction and then it will be a normal (single) transaction again.

@jlongster I guess the button to un-split would help, but I have actually tried deleting the splits and it was a scary experience because the whole transaction has disappeared. It happened while I was in the 'Uncategorized' view, but I am not able to reproduce it now... if I manage to, I'll make sure to update the issue.

Same thing happened to me. The transaction disappeared. I was able to get it back by ctrl-Z but just removed all but the last split and put the entire amount on it as one category. For now, it will have to suffice. Still shows up as "split" but you can at least see what is the category of the one split by opening it.

👋 Two things discussed here:

  1. ability to un-split a transaction - this can be achieved by deleting all the sub transactions by either using "d" keyboard shortcut or by clicking on the "x" besides the sub-transactions;
  2. transactions "disappearing" - if this happens again the latest version - please let us know with more information (repo steps) so we could investigate; but until then I'll consider this as done.
