Verified feature request does not already exist?

  • I have searched and found no existing issue

💻

  • Would you like to implement this feature?

Pitch: what problem are you trying to solve?

Hi,

Im very new to Actual budget and the pikapod hosting to sync on all devices is amazing, I just transferred from YNAB4 because I'm tired of running YNAB 4 on parallels on my macbook.
So far this app is superior than YNAB4 but the only thing I wish you can do is to close an account without having to transfer all the amount inside the account before allowing you to close it. I do this because I leave all my investment accounts under closed so it is separate from the off budget accounts.

Describe your ideal solution to this problem

If there is a way to create another folder aside from on budget and off budget or to just let users delete the account so it goes under the closed accounts folder with all the transactions in it. This way there is a 3 different folders you can park the accounts.

Teaching and learning

May be a dupe of https://github.com/actualbudget/actual/issues/5893 since that mentioned the accounts still having balances. Though perhaps ironically even the current Closed account sections still show balances, but you can't put an account there unless its balance is zero (at the time of closure, tho I guess you can add txns after)

...so on that basis it might suffice just to change the current requirement of transferirng the balance to another account, to be a recommendation but give a choice, thus allowing users to put non-zero balances into that group directly instead of having to do tricks.

If you have a non-zero amount in a closed account it will cause a mismatch.

From my Discord post, "It turns out that the All Accounts number on the left DOES NOT include any amounts left in closed accounts. The green number above the transaction list in All Accounts DOES include the transactions from the closed accounts.

So, therefore, the two reported amounts are not equal. Once the closed account had a zeroing transaction, everything is now reporting equal."

Therefore, closed accounts must have a zero balance.

What is the reason for splitting out the off budget accounts? Seems like the real feature you are requesting is account groups, not that closed accounts can be non-zero
