Verified issue does not already exist?

  • I have searched and found no existing issue
  • I will be providing steps how to reproduce the bug (in most cases this will also mean uploading a demo budget file)

What happened?

After the latest update (24.12.0-alpine) to my actual server, my windows 11 desktop app version of Actual is unable to find the server. I checked that the app, installed via the Microsoft store, is up to date and it does not show any updates available.
I know it is an issue with the desktop app and not the server, because navigating to my actual budget via a webpage on the same computer works just fine, other devices are not having the same issue (a mobile phone, Mac etc). just the windows desktop app.

Where are you hosting Actual?

Other

What browsers are you seeing the problem on?

Desktop App (Electron)

Operating System

Windows 11

do you have a self signed cert with your server?

Also, it may be better for you to install Actual on your PC via the PWA instead of the windows store. That way your app version is always the same as your server version.

I have no idea. I didn't set one up so assuming no. also the bug report is regarding the app itself being broken not the server - as mentioned I'm able to access the budget other ways so not looking for help on accessing my budget as I am letting y'all know the app on windows store might be broken since the app requested I tell y'all when I opened it and it couldn't find the server.

hmm. What error are you getting when you use the desktop app? Also are you adding http:// in front of the url in the desktop app?

The original error I got was when I was still 'signed in' via the app and it was a red box with a basic message about being unable to access the server and to please submit a bug report via github. The buttons up top for sync had a red error, and next to it it said 'server offline' or 'server unavailable'. (Sorry I thought I took a screenshot but apparently didn't).

I tried signing out of my budget to log back in so now the app just says "Server returned an error while checking its status." and in the bottom corner it says the app version is v24.12.0 and Server: N/A

I don't know then. Maybe try clearing out all the data for the app to start fresh.

Really, if you are running a server I recommend using the PWA instead of the desktop app the are fewer issues that way.

I recommend you reach out on discord if you need more tech support.
