Verified feature request does not already exist?

  • I have searched and found no existing issue

💻

  • Would you like to implement this feature?

Pitch: what problem are you trying to solve?

How much did I expend on holidays? how much this work travel costed me? It will be nice if we can Tag or group transactions in other way than the category. I will sleep, eat, buy stuff and that goes to different categories, but all related to a trip, a wedding, a ... something.

Expanding this idea, we could assign some budget to those Labels/tags/groups to allow for budget the trip, vacation, ... and make it reportable. how much did we spend in restaurants while visiting this city? things like that.

This is something like buckets of transactions, adding a new dimension on reporting

Describe your ideal solution to this problem

Ideally transactions has a field, that allows to add labels / tags / groups /buckets that allow to group cross-category transitions and report on them

Those labels / tags / groups /buckets could have been created before hand and with a budget assigned and can be applied to all accounts

Teaching and learning

I think is very straight forward, you can categorize a transaction today, is adding more structure comment.

"Group by activity" or some (probably better) name

You can add #tags to transactions already in the notes.

Indeed, but you can't assign a budget to it, so I will edit for the second
part of the idea

While I agree that the addition of additional reporting dimensions would be useful, for such use cases, I think I would personally group these related transactions in their own categories (Travel, Wedding etc.) While the transactions may span different conventional categories, they fall under the same "envelope" and so would be better budgeted in a stand-alone category.

If your concern is about increasing clutter due to the introduction of more categories in your budget, it is possible to hide categories if they are no longer relevant.
