Verified feature request does not already exist?

  • I have searched and found no existing issue

💻

  • Would you like to implement this feature?

Pitch: what problem are you trying to solve?

I split expenses with my partner, and we rely on Splitwise for tracking owed amounts. I'd like to be able to import Splitwise transactions instead of having to manually input every transaction.

Describe your ideal solution to this problem

Ideal solution: Ability to link Splitwise in Actual as an account that could be synced with the existing "Sync" button.
Pros:
Keys/tokens can be stored on the server for easy sync between devices
Ease of syncing means budget is kept more up-to-date

Cons:
I've got no typescript or react experience and am not sure of the complexity of this (but I'm willing to learn :-))
Unsure how niche this request is, could be a negative if the app gets overwhelmed with niche integrations.

Alternate solution: Import from CLI similar to https://github.com/gcflames5/ynab-splitwise-integration
Pros:
Easier to set up
Cons:
Difficult to do from mobile
"Latest update" timestamp does not stay synced across multiple devices
Toil of having to manually run the tool

Teaching and learning

I think this would need step-by-step instructions similar to https://actualbudget.org/docs/advanced/bank-sync/, because the user would need to get an API key. To make it discoverable in the app, it could be a separate option under "Add Account", but there's a risk of bogging down this menu too much and it feels "too visible" for an account that would be added once at most for the typical user, if at all.
