Verified issue does not already exist?

  • I have searched and found no existing issue
  • I will be providing steps how to reproduce the bug (in most cases this will also mean uploading a demo budget file)

What happened?

Deployed Actual to PikaPods. I followed the instructions to export my nYNAB budget to JSON.

When I import a very simple budget (1 account, a few categories, 20 transactions) that was created in nYNAB, everything comes into Actual no problem.

When I try to import my main budget file that was originally created in YNAB4 and migrated to nYNAB, I get the error "An unknown error occured while importing." This JSON file has almost 40k lines and is 20 MB. Many accounts, hidden accounts, hidden categories, deleted categories, etc. etc.

Where are you hosting Actual?

Pikapods

What browsers are you seeing the problem on?

Firefox

Operating System

Mac OSX

OK clearly I did not know how to search for other issues. I found a similar thread here: https://github.com/actualbudget/actual/issues/2886

The key is opening up console to look at the logs - it pointed out that I had a duplicate budget category. "Gas" and "Gas". I opened up nYNAB budget, found the hidden budget category, renamed it to "Gas_OLD", re-exported, and imported just fine.
