What happened?

I was trying to open my budget and the app cannot access the data directory. It started after I was prompted to grant permissions to the Documents folder and I accidentally cancelled it (was in the middle of typing at the time). The prompt was very unexpected because I had been using Actual for some time already.

If I delete the Actual folder and connect to my server again, it will download the budget again and work for a while, but eventually fails again on launch.

This is the main console message:
{message: "EPERM: operation not permitted, scandir '/Users/userdir/Documents/Actual'"}

Ideally, I'd like to just re-trigger the permission notification, but if I need to reinstall I can try that next.

Thanks you!

How can we reproduce the issue?

Wait for the permission prompt to come up on MacOS and deny it. Fully close the app, then open it again. It will not be able to open the budget file.

Where are you hosting Actual?

Desktop App (Electron)

What browsers are you seeing the problem on?

Desktop App (Electron)

Operating System

Mac OSX

I think Mac have a permission section in their settings where you can grant access to apps.

It could also be that the file is locked. That error can also happen when you have another app that's using that folder (virus scans/cloud sync). That's rare though, and we have functionality to account for other apps locking the files - assuming they release them in good time.
